Equation Editor:
Window in MathType used to create and edit equations inside of Microsoft Word and other applications.
MathML (Math Markup Language):
An XML compliant and internet-ready language for displaying equations. MathMonarch is currently developing a full MathML filter. Interested customers should contact customer care to learn more about this exciting new feature.
MathMonarch:
Program created to convert math equations to and from
a word processor to a paging program.
MathType:
Program created by Design Science that is the full version of equation editor (the
default equation editor for Microsoft Word as well as many other programs).
Microsoft Word:
Word processor that author’s use to write textbooks. Math equations are saved into the document using Design Sicence’s MathType.
MTV: (MathTag Verification)
Verifies a document to insure true WWdoc.
OLE: (Object Linking Embedded)
MathType creates boxes inside of Microsoft Word to display an equation.
PowerMathID:
Program created by PowerHouse Software that is an equation editor extension for InDesign on the Mac platform.
TeX:
Language used by publishers, can be imported into MathType or MathMonarch through the use of a filter.
WWdoc:
WW Document: The text equivalent of equations created in other programs. WWdoc is the target for all converted equations, as it can be rebuilt in many different formats.
WWL:
WW Library, library file containing automatic replacements to make all WWdoc equations true WWdoc. WWL files are created through MTV.

QuarkXPress uses PowerHouse’s PowerMath to display math equations in documents. WWdoc has become the language of PowerMath.

Equation edition extension for QuarkXPress.
